Beijing Emblem Design Competition Ends

By the October 8 deadline the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee had received 1,994 design applications for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games following a three-month competition.

Phase two of the competition starts Monday when the emblem designs will be appraised.

Although 89 per cent of the applicants were local, other designs came from Asia, Europe, the United States and Oceania.

The final emblem of the 2008 Games will be announced next April after its approval by the International Olympic Committee.

Meanwhile October 10 was moving day for the Beijing Organizing Committee. Fourteen BOCOG Departments are now occupying five floors of a downtown Beijing office building.
