Liu Qi, President of Beijing 2008, urged meteorologists countrywide to provide the best services during the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Xinhua quotes Liu saying, “a top grade Olympic Games cannot do without first-class weather services”. He called on meteorological departments to provide more accurate forecasts and cooperate internationally.
Liu said because of global climate change the weather during next year’s Olympic Games will be much more complicated than previous ones and poses tougher requirements for Beijing’s weather services.
Xinhua reports that Beijing has set up 26 bases around the city to carry out rain reduction projects for the event.
