A new version of the official Beijing 2008 Web site was launched Monday by Sohu.com Inc., following the signing of a sponsorship agreement between BOCOG and the company. According to Beijing 2008 the new edition will provide “richer” Olympic-related content, including preparations for the 2008 Games, “and an attractive layout for the on-line community”.
Beijing 2008 signed an agreement Monday with the State Post Bureau of China authorizing it to issue 2008 Olympiad-related stamps. The Post Bureau is licensed to issue a number of sets of stamps with the theme of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, including their emblems, mascots, competition sports, venues and the torch relay. On December 12, a day after the unveiling of the Beijing 2008 Mascot, the State Post Bureau will issue commemorative stamps featuring the 2008 Olympic emblem and mascots. A portion of royalties collected by the bureau will be used to fund the Beijing 2008 Games.
Stavros Dimas, EU Environment Commissioner, expressed confidence Sunday that government measures would effectively tackle Beijing’s chronic air pollution in time for the 2008 Games. Speaking at a news conference in Beijing he said, “I’m sure the atmosphere will be cleaner and the environment will become better in Beijing and even the whole country as the Chinese Government is working out measures to protect the environment, including by developing renewable energy”.
