Beijing 2008 Unveils Paralympic Logo

On the third anniversary of Beijing’s successful bid to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, the emblem for the Paralympic Games was unveiled.

The red, blue and green logo called “Heaven, Earth and Human” is based on the Chinese character “Zhi”, which comprises three strokes representing the title. It’s a character most used in ancient Chinese.

It also includes the logo of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the English words “Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games”.

Deng Pufang, President of the China Disabled Person’s Federation and a BOCOG executive president, said that the Chinese government attaches equal importance to hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He added, “the Chinese people are also equally enthusiastic about the two Games. The 2008 Olympics and Paralympics will for sure open a new chapter in the history of the Olympic movement and human civilization”.

Meanwhile Beijing 2008 announced that Volkswagen Group China has become the automobile partner of the 2008 Games.

The company is the first official partner and will provide financial, automobile and other forms of support for the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics, BOCOG, the Chinese Olympic Committee, as well as the Chinese sports delegation to the 2006 Turin Winter Games and the 2008 Beijing Summer Games.

The amount of the sponsorship was described as being “considerable” but was not disclosed.

Wang Wei, BOCOG’s Vice President and Secretary General, said that BOCOG would soon unveil partners in several other fields, including banking, and mobile and fixed telecommunications.
