Beijing 2008 To Have Environmentally Friendly Games

Beijing will be able to dispose of 98 per cent of its consumer waste in an environmentally friendly way for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games by investing $385.5 million in constructing 15 garbage disposal projects between 2004 and 2008.

More than 80 per cent of investment will come from businesses, according to Chen Wenzhan, head of Beijing’s municipal administration committee.

By 2005 the city will build two centralized medical waste treatment projects and increase its daily disposal capacity of such garbage by 63 per cent from 650,000 tons in 2003.

Before 2008 Beijing also plans to build four garbage treatment centres for the exclusive use of restaurants.
