Seven million tickets for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games were released for sale Sunday, and more than 50,000 people have placed orders over the Internet. Rong Jun, head of the Olympic Ticketing Center, told Xinhua, “by Monday noon more than 50,000 people have placed orders for about 250,000 tickets through our official ticketing website”.
However there were fewer orders for the 1,000 tickets being offered for sale at Bank of China branches. A bank manager said, “a lot of people came to consult us on how to buy Olympic tickets, but only a few have placed orders”.
During the first phase people can wait until June 30 to place orders. Tickets will be assigned between July and August. For oversubscribed events there will be a random computerized selection. The second phase of domestic sales kicks off in October through December.
Meanwhile the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission opened its eighth full session in Beijing Tuesday.
Beijing 2008 President Liu Qi told the opening session that Beijing 2008 is making a great effort to deliver a more detailed and efficient preparatory work for the 2008 Games.
