Beijing 2008 Preparations Include Hotels And Food

The two hotels designated as International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters during the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games are in the midst of preparations.

At a recent launching ceremony of the preparatory work, Beijing 2008, the Beijing Hotel, and the Grand Hotel Beijing discussed a number of tasks including security, transport service, accommodation requirements, protocol service, internal divisional management and circulation design.

Each of the hotels has set up an Olympic working group composed of hotel management as well as the managers of catering, room service, security and engineering departments, to specially deal with Olympic service and reception.

Meanwhile a special “recommended menu” with an emphasis on Chinese cuisine is being prepared for the athletes competing in the 2008 Games, said a commerce official Tuesday.

Deing Tingfu of the Ministry of Commerce told Xinhua that to highlight the Chinese characteristics of the Olympics most of the 100 courses on the menu would be Chinese. He said an expert panel would be responsible for evaluating the nutrition of each course before they are exhibited at the Second China Catering Exposition in Xi’an October 18 to 20.

The menu will be modified on the advice of experts and visitors before it is formally submitted to the Beijing 2008 preparation committee that has the final say.
