Beijing 2008 Olympic Green Based On U.S. Design

The final layout for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Green will be based on the winner of the global design competition, U.S. architectural company Sasaki Associates.

According to the China Daily, an expert group from Beijing’s major architectural design think tanks is negotiating with Saskai’s partners to further improve the plan and incorporate other prize-winning layouts.

The traffic system for the winning plan still needs to be further improved to meet the requirements of the 1,135-hectar grounds and neighbouring districts. Also, further research and negotiations are needed on the arrangement of bus and train stations.

Residents are also having input on the designs of the Olympic Green and Wukesong Cultural and Sports Center in western Beijing.

No design has yet been chosen for the Wukesong Cultural and Sports Center because every single stadium has to be taken into considering, according to Zhang, a chief planner.

Zhang and his colleagues are still comparing the winning plans and listening to stadium proprietor’s ideas before making a final decision.
