Beijing 2008 May Host Women’s Boxing

Shen Zhigang, vice director of the Chinese boxing federation, said that women’s boxing may be staged at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Shen told Xinhua that the World Boxing Council had already had a promise from International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge who supported the idea of accepting women’s boxing as a part of the Olympics.

He added, “the issue of how to promote the women’s boxing being accepted by Olympics will be discussed in the World Boxing Council’s meeting to be held in Spain in October”.

Meanwhile Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and British Prime Minister Tony Blair vowed Tuesday to cooperate in hosting the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Summer Games and promote trade and economic ties.

Blair is in Beijing for a China-EU summit. It’s his third visit to China as Britain’s Prime Minister.
