Citizens who report Olympic logo infringement ahead of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games will receive five per cent of all fines given to the lawbreakers, according to a regulation jointly issued by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Industry and Commerce, and the Legal Affairs Department of Beijing 2008. Xinhua reports the largest reward will be 100,000 yuan ($14,286 U.S.).
The drive was launched to step up the crackdown on infringement upon the copyright of Olympic logos such as manufacturing and use without authorization the official Mascots of the Beijing Games – the “Fuwas”; the emblems of the Beijing 2008 Olympics and Paralympics; Beijing’s Olympic slogan and the symbol of the Olympic torch relay.
The trademark logos are owned by Beijing 2008 and only authorized companies are allowed to manufacture products bearing the logos.
Meanwhile Beijing is sending 3,200 nurses to 31 Olympic venues to provide immediate medical services for athletes during the Games, reports Xinhua. They will be selected from the city’s 60,000 nurses, said Wang Liming of the Beijing Municipal Federation of Trade Unions.
She said, “they must be proficient nurses enjoying a good reputation among patients. Those who perform outstandingly during the Games will be rewarded”.
Twenty-four hospitals have been designated to provide medical services for the Olympics.
