If you’ve always wanted to visit Beijing now is your opportunity. Beijing 2008 is inviting ten families, five from China and five internationally, to tour Beijing and the co-host cities for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games starting August 8, 2007 which marks the one-year countdown to the Beijing 2008 Games.
The “Olympic Families Tour Beijing” campaign was launched Monday on the Beijing 2008 official website in cooperation with China Mobile. The 10 families will be selected from the website.
According to Beijing 2008 families from China and abroad with a keen interest in the Beijing Games, after being invited via the Internet, are expected to remain in close contact to better understand each other’s culture and enhance the friendship between the Chinese and other peoples of the world. The campaign is expected to provide foreigners with a “unique” opportunity to gain a first-hand understanding of Beijing and China, and see how the 2008 Games are being prepared.
There will be three phases of the campaign. During phase one from April 9 to May 31 100 families (50 Chinese and 50 from abroad) will be selected. During the second phase from June 1 to June 30 the top ten winning families will be selected. Stage three goes from July 1 to August 16.
Jiang Xiaoyu, executive vice president of BOCOG said, “we hope that more foreign families get to know Beijing, to understand China through the program as they participate in it. There is no frontier on the Internet, nor in an Olympics. I think to invite these families to gather in Beijing will best illustrate our Olympic theme slogan One World One Dream”.
The winning families will visit the “Bird’s Nest” main stadium and the state-of-the-art swimming stadium “Water Cube” as well as the Olympic sailing venue in Qingdao, Shandong province.
They will also watch some test events, climb the Great Wall, and view the Forbidden City in Beijing.
