Beijing 2008 Invests In Logistics Parks

Beijing is investing more than $3 billion (U.S.) in the development of four large logistics parks in time for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

The four logistics parks will be developed to support Beijing’s logistics network, reports the China Daily on Saturday.

Yen Zhigang, an official from the Beijing Commerce Bureau said, “all these projects should be finished before the 2008 Olympic Games.

Beijing Logistics Port, the largest project in the promotion, will cover 4.7 square kilometres and cost $1.33 billion (U.S.).

Meanwhile, Beijing has been awarded the 2006 Women’s World Softball Championship, as announced by the International Softball Federation’s (ISF) executive committee Saturday.

Beijing beat Italy’s Verona and South Africa’s Cape Town, polling 52 votes from the committee to Verona’s 28 votes and Cape Town’s 12 votes. One hundred and twenty one officials and representatives from 41 countries and regions are on the committee.
