Beijing 2008 Gets Advice On Security

A United Nations security body said Friday it had given China anti-terrorism advice ahead of the Beijing 2008 Games as part of a new security advisory service intended to help make major world events safer, reports Reuters.

Officials from the U.N. Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICR) held talks in Beijing last month on how to counter the threat of terrorism, Francesco Cappe, security expert with UNICRI told Reuters. “We’re ready now to provide an advisory service to countries worldwide that are organizing major events,” he said.

Meanwhile Beijing 2008 organizers have promised to deliver quality services to media covering the Beijing 2008 Games.

Liu Qi, President of Beijing 2008 said this week that great care should be given to the media service to ensure reporters from across the world have the best accommodation and working conditions.
