The environmental symbol of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games – “Green Olympics” – was officially released to the public at the Beijing Youth Palace on September 24.
According to the Beijing 2008 Web site the symbol is composed of shapes of human beings and trees, the crown of a tree and the shape of human beings make up the big tree reaching the sky, standing for harmony and unity between human beings and nature.
Liu Jingmin, Vice Mayor of Beijing Municipality and Executive Vice-President of Beijing 2008, said that the Green Olympics not only needed government support and BOCOG’s efforts, but also depended on the participation of the public, and that it was no doubt the release of the symbol had an important effect on promoting thematic educational activities carried out by BOCOG to encourage more citizens to choose green lives, to participate in green activities and to support green Olympics.
