The third and final batch of domestic tickets for 2008 Summer Games venues in Beijing and Hong Kong were sold out Wednesday. The tickets went on sale Monday at Bank of China branches and online.
Wang Hui, spokeswoman for Beijing 2008, said tickets remained for other venues in co-host cities, including Shanghai, Shenyang, Tianjin and Qinhuangdao. Tickets for the soccer tournament in the co-host cities as well as tickets for equestrian events in Hong Kong are still available.
She said fans have until May 14 to pay for the booked tickets, adding, “if they didn’t pay by that date the tickets will be taken back”.
The Associated Press reports that last year organizers said about 7.2 million tickets would be available for domestic and foreign sales, but a few weeks ago a Beijing official said the number was down to 6.8 million, but no explanation was given for the change.
