Beijing 2008 – Dogs and Volunteers Recruited

Reuters reports that an elite group of police guard dogs especially trained for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games made their first appearance Saturday at a car show.

One policeman told Reuters “this dog has never seen so many people so he’s a bit nervous today. Hopefully he’ll do a bit better in 2008”.

Meanwhile Hong Kong is recruiting 1,800 volunteers for the equestrian events at the Beijing 2008, said event organizer Lam Woon-kwong. About 100 core volunteers will be recruited by the end of this year and will receive at least 80 hours of training, reports The Standard, China’s business newspaper.

A second group will be recruited in the first quarter of next year to help during a trial competition, and the last group will be recruited between July and September for the Games.

About 100 of the volunteers will be drivers with a good driving record and foreign language skills.

Application information will be announced this month.
