Beijing 2008 Announces International Architecture Competition

The Beijing Olympic Committee announced that an international architecture competition is being held to determine the design of the Beijing Shooting Range and Laoshan Cycling Velodrome, two competition venues for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Six architecture companies and consortia, including those from Australia, Germany and Spain, have confirmed their interest in the shooting range project.

The deadline for the final entries is May 20.

Wang Baoliang, an official from the State Sports General Administration, who will oversee the construction of the two projects said “after we finalize the designs for the two venues, the construction work will start at the end of this year”.

With 9,000 seats, The Beijing Shooting Range will host all shooting events during the 2008 Games. The Laoshan Cycling Velodrome will have 6,000 seats.
