San Francisco-based Levi Strauss & Co. plans to donate $50,000 this year and another $50,000 next year to the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (BASOC). The second installment will come if the Sacramento-to-Monterey is picked as the U.S. candidate city by the U.S. Olympic Committee in November.
BASOC CEO Anne Cribbs said, “the only challenge from the USOC after their visit here last summer was that they needed to have BASOC demonstrate corporate support in the Bay Area. They want to see those faces when they visit (this year)”.
There could be more financial aid coming from Kevin Compton, a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, part of the local investor group that bought the San Jose Sharks last month for a reported $120 million to $140 million. Described as an “Olympics nut”, he said, “if contacts and capital help them drive the cause, I will help them”.
