Tirachai Vutitham, chairman of the 2008 Bangkok Games Campaign Committee’s PR team said that the city expects to win the approval of the International Olympic Committee selection committee and become one of the finalists for the 2008 Summer Games.
Lt-Gen Lertrat said that by 2008 there will be a full range of skytrain services as well as a subway system and a new international airport in Bangkok.
The main venues could include Thammasat Sports Park in Rangsit, Muang Thong Thani Sports Complex and indoor stadium, and the Hua Mark Sports Complex, to be renamed Bangkok Olympic Park and be expanded to accommodate up to 80,000 spectators. The city has an existing infrastructure which was erected for the 1998 Asian Games.
Public approval for Bangkok’s bid is reaching 70 per cent.
