More than 300,000 people attended the sixth annual “Austrian Day of Sport” last weekend at the Heldenplatz in Vienna, what was organized by the Sports Department of the Federal Chancellery. All the Austrian sports federation were in attendance.
Salzburg’s bid for the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games was represented by the Austrian Olympic Committee and the Austrian Paralympic Committee who were signing up supporters for the bid.
Heinz Jungwirth, Secretary General of the Austrian Olympic Committee said, “the passion that Austrians have for sport is incredible – no matter what the sport, all the stands are full”.
He added, “…when you consider that the Cycling World Championship also took pace in Salzburg on the same weekend, this means that over 500,000 people attended two major events…this shows our nation’s passion for sport. And from a 2014 viewpoint there is also a real sense that everyone is behind Salzburg’s bid for the 2014 Games”.
