Agence France-Presse reports that organizers of the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games said Tuesday they have stopped contacts with regions hit by SARS, including 2008 Games host Beijing.
Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, head of Athens 2004, said, “we have taken precautionary measures and we are on constant alert. We have cancelled events and our communication with people from high-risk regions as defined by the World Health Organization”.
Organizers will ask athletes and officials from high-risk countries visiting Athens before the Games to be put under medical observation for a certain period of time, either in their countries or in Greece, said ATHOC spokesman Serapheim Kotrotsos.
