Athens Mascots Popular

First they’re being sued, now there’s word that Phebus and Athena, officials mascots for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, are popular with manufacturers around the world.

IOC general marketing director Michael Payne said, “it’s the best mascot of the Games in terms of marketing and overseas manufacturers can’t stop making them which proves they’ve been well accepted by the market”.

Just yesterday GamesBids.com reported that a group calling itself the Greek Society of the Friends for the Ancients had launched a law suit, claiming that the two mascots were “cone-shaped caricatures, based on seventh-century terra cotta dolls that mock the Gods Apollo and Athena” and wants the dolls banned.
