Security at Athens International Airport will be increased starting April 1, four months before the 2004 Summer Olympic Games that run Aug. 13-28.
The head of the airport’s security told an international aviation security conference in Athens, “there will be additional measures starting on April 1, and full security will be in effect from July onwards”.
Athens 2004 has budgeted $775 million on protecting the Games and is receiving advice on fighting terrorism from seven countries, including the United States and Israel.
Meanwhile, proposed legislative amendments will outlaw drunkenness in the stands at the Olympic Games, as well as racist abuse, slogans smearing Greece’s neighbours, and being rude about the Games.
