More than 12 millions meals (6,000 meals per hour) will be fed to athletes, team officials, the Olympic and Paralympic family, the workforce, technical officials, accredited media, sponsors and spectators, during the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
There will be a range of food from halal (food preparation according to Islamic customs;) to kosher food (according to Jewish customs) to iodine intolerance since the performance of athletes is related to nutrition.
Visitors to the Games will be able to taste Greek cuisine and products.
Experienced food service companies will be chosen through international competitive bids working under the direction and management of the Athens 2004 Food Services Department. A staff of about 17,000 will be employed.
