Athens 2004 Paralympic organizers have restored some of the traffic lanes exclusively reserved for the members of the Paralympic Family. The lanes will be reserved for accredited vehicles from September 17-28.
New traffic regulations and special busses were introduced in Athens from Wednesday to September 30 and local authorities called on Games spectators to use public transportation.
A total of 571 busses are in operation to carry Paralympic athletes, their escorts, coaches, referees and media representatives.
Of that number 337 busses have been refit to carry four to six wheelchairs each and can transport up to 6,000 athletes and their escorts from the Paralympic Village to the airport and the venues.
One thousand referees will have 60 busses available to them and another 120 busses have been allocated for the transportation of media representatives between the Olympic Village, hotels, Main Press Center and the venues.
