Athens 2004 Officials Meet To Keep Budget On Track

A Greek publication reports that several meetings are being held this week between the Greek government and Olympic Games officials to discuss escalating costs for the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games and how to keep the budget on track.

Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis is to meet with ministers involved in Olympic Games preparations and the budget was to be be discussed at an interministerial meeting Tuesday.

Government officials have recently expressed concerns over the rising Olympic budget and many of these officials have noted that all ministries involved in Olympic preparations are looking for additional funds to help make ends meet.

The government hopes to keep the country’s Olympic budget at the target figure of 4.4 billion euros.
