Athens 2004 Legacies Announced

The Greek government has announced the legacies of the sites used for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.

The Olympic Sports Complex comprising the main Olympic Stadium, an indoor arena, indoor and outdoor swimming and diving pools, a cycling track, tennis courts, training tracks and athletes’ accommodation, will be used for Greece’ sporting needs.

The private sector is expected to manage the sailing centre and the International Broadcast Centre at Maroussi.

The former Hellenikon airport, the site of the Indoor Arena and Fencing Hall, the Canoe and Kayak Slalom Centre, and the baseball, softball and hockey stadiums, will be transformed into the Hellenikon metropolitan park, one of the biggest parks in any European city, providing Athenians with a world class leisure resource.

Meanwhile the Athens 2004 Web site has been refurbished.

The four-year-old site has adopted index pages for easing browsing. Internal “advertising” is also heavily used to promote areas of the Web site with relative content.

The Web site is available in three languages, Greek, English and French, there are hourly updates, a comprehensive Athens city guide and a special area dedicated to young audiences.

The site uses state of the art technical infrastructure.
