The 1,000 square metre Integration Test Laboratory began operating today at the site of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
It’s a simulation area for all the technology systems that will be used during the 2004 Games, and a miniature model of technological infrastructure which will be used for every sport or action.
Tests will be conducted over the next few days under real conditions based on scenarios attested to by specific events of earlier Games. They include repeated tests for the events’ timing systems, the announcement of results, registration on the score boards, tests on the information systems of the Games sports commentators, the printing systems etc.
The Integration Test Laboratory area will make it possible to simulate the technology of 37 sports and eight additional operations from room reservations, to accreditations, printing networks, the commentators’ information network, etc.
The program will train 3,850 people, of whom about 3,000 will be volunteers and the rest staff of Athens 2004 and the international technology sponsors.
