Senior NBC executives were in Athens to inspect the status of Olympic preparations. During their four-day stay they were briefed in detail at the Athens 2004 headquarters and discussed issues about the operation and planning of the television network during the 2004 Games.
Topics discussed included accommodation, accreditation, food services, security, transportation, ticketing, Internet services etc.
NBC will accredit about 3,000 people for the Athens Games. There will be efforts undertaken to recruit a high percentage of production personnel form the national market.
NBC’s contribution for the 2004 Games will total $795.3 million (U.S.).
NBC Executive Vice President David Neal, said, “the progress that ATHOC has made over the past few months is more impressive. Much like the Coordination Commission in the last weeks, we at NBC have been very encouraged by the planning and execution of the overall Olympic plan that we’ve seen during this trip. We are extremely optimistic that the Athens Games will be enormously successful”.
Meanwhile, the vice president and technical delegate of the World Wresting Federation visited the Olympic Indoor Hall under construction at Ano Liossia, and expressed enthusiasm over the progress of construction at the Ano Liossia Olympic Indoor Hall for Wrestling.
Raphael Martinetti said, “we are very pleased because we see words being turned into deeds. It is an amazing project with a seating capacity of 9,300, which I believe will be full every day during the Games, something which will give a major impetus and promotion to our sport. We are in perfect cooperation with the Organising Committee and there are no significant problems”.
