Alpha Bank has outbid four other banks to be a $72 million major sponsor of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Alpha will provide technical support for the Olympics.
Athens organizers have also agreed to a $17 million deal with Athinaiki Breweries, which has the license for Heineken and Amstel in Greece, joining other national sponsors including Swatch and the state telecommunication company OTE. OTE has committed about $50 million.
Michael Payne, marketing director for the International Olympic Committee, called the new deals “phenomenal” and said they provide “clear evidence of the confidence that the business community has about the Athens 2004 Games”.
