A three-day Olympic security exercise testing Greece’s ability to deal with hostage taking and terrorism involving biological, chemical or nuclear weapons was deemed a success by the Greeks.
The exercise, code-named “Blue Odyssey” was the sixth security drill to deal with possible scenarios involving mass casualties during the August 13-29 Games.
According to Associated Press officials tested chain-of-command procedures, following by a chemical gas explosion at a train station near Athens’ port of Piraeus.
There was also a hostage-taking scenario involving a sailboat in the rocky coastal area of Palea Fokia, about 30 miles from Athens.
