The New York Olympic Games Commission, a 15-member body, has been created by Gov. George Pataki to assist NYC2012, a privately funded group, with bringing the 2012 Summer Games to New York.
To date, the commission’s specific functions are undefined.
Several commission members on the new group may prove valuable, since infrastructure improvements for the Games are likely to require some public funding. Among them, representatives of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Port Authority, the Department of Transportation and the Empire State Development Corp.
Businessman David Cornstein has been appointed commission chairman. He is credited with rebuilding the city’s Off-Track Betting Corp. as chairman.
