The French town of Annecy will submit its application to host the 2014 Olympic Games when the IOC opens the campaign on July 28, it was announced today as reported by Xinhua news.
Although the winter sports destination has been actively promoting and planning its bid for several years it could only be confirmed after Paris’ disappointing loss to London for the 2012 Summer Games earlier this week. The IOC wouldn’t likely support back-to-back Games in the same country.
Annecy mayor Bernard Bosson explained “the formidable public support for the Paris bid demonstrated the French love for the Olympics and we intend to pick up the Olympic flame.”
After Paris lost its bid for the 1992 Olympic Games to Barcelona Spain, the Winter Games for the same year were awarded to the French town of Albertville.
Annecy joins four other bid that have already indicated their intentions including PyeongChang, South Korea and Salzburg, Austria – both who bid for the 2010 Games – Sofia, Bulgaria and the nation of Georgia.
The IOC will elect the 2014 Olympic Games host July 2007 at a session in Guatamala City.
