Andorra 2010 Is A Two-Country Bid

Andorra 2010’s executive committee announced that should Andorra host the 2010 Winter Games, sports events would take place in Andorra and France.

Andorra’s technical committee said that after a two-month study, it supports Andorra hosting the 2010 Olympic Games.

The Soldeu-et Tarter ski resort will be the site for Alpine skiing events including downhill, slalom and super G.

The Olympic Village, which will house all the members of the Olympic family, will be located in Andorra la Vella. It will also be the site for the opening and closing ceremonies to take place in Estadi Comunal, which was recently renovated.

The Pavello del Govern will be either be converted into an ice venue, or a new one will be built, where hockey, figure skating and short track will take place.

The Palau de gel of Canillo will host women’s hockey. Curling may also take place either there or in France.

The alpine resort of la Plagne will host bobsled and luge, while Font-romeu, French Cerdagne and Capcir will host Nordic skiing, ski jumping, speed skating and possibly curling.

Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig will have snowboarding and women’s downhill skiing will take place in Ordino-Arcalis or Soldeu-el-Tarter.

Christian Bourquin, president of France’s General Council of the Pyrenees Orientales, met with the head of Andorra’s government Marc Forne, emphasizing France’s support for the Andorran 2010 bid.

Bourquin said, “we are totally by your side and we will be a strong, loyal and efficient collaborator, because this project is wonderful and we want to see its success as much as you do”.
