In the end it was all about politics. Just after 10 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, in the second round of voting, IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch announced that the 2008 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Beijing.
The vote was 56 for Beijing, 22 for Toronto, 18 for Paris and 9 for Istanbul.
In the next seven years Beijing will have the opportunity to show the world that Beijing is the “New Beijing, Great Olympics”.
