Aircraft Carrier Promotes London 2012 Bid

The 22,000-ton Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious sailed up the Thames River passing London 2012 venues and flying a London 2012 flag.

The aircraft carrier will remain in London until May 10, before continuing with a summer of activity.

It’s Commanding Officer Captain Bob Cooling said the crew was proud to be backing London’s 2012 bid and London 2012 head Sebastian Coe added, “it is fantastic to have such visible support for our campaign as it enters the final two months. There is a huge sense of excitement to our campaign and support is growing all the time. I believe we have a winning blueprint”.

After berthing next to the famous Cutty Sark clipper, a group of local schoolchildren went aboard for an afternoon of sports activities on the flight deck.
