African CGA Members Invited To Abuja 2014

All 18 African members of the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) have been invited to Abuja by the Nigerian government to have a first-hand look at the facilities for the Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Games bid, reports the Nigerian News Agency PANAPRESS.

Olabanji Oladapo, Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and a member of the bid committee said, “we are using the opportunity presented by the ongoing 9th All African Games being hosted by Algeria to reach out to our African brothers in a bid to support our bidding process. They are to provide convenient dates when they could come to Abuja. We are ready for their visit”.

According to Oladapo delegations from South America, Asia and Europe have already visited Abuja to inspect the facilities. “The Oceania will be expected to also visit. During their visits they would be provided briefs as well as taken round the facilities and through the comprehensive plans for staging of the games.

“This is meant to offer them the opportunity of really (deciding) where to cast their votes on 9 November in Sri Lanka during the General Assembly of the CGA”.

Glasgow is Abuja’s only competition for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
