An additional 35,230 tickets for the Athens 2004 Summer Olympic Games, including 1,000 tickets for the Opening Ceremony and 4,000 tickets for the Closing Ceremony, will be made available to the public starting Friday.
The batch of the Games’ most popular tickets were released after a review of seating arrangements at the main Olympic stadium, the aquatic and gymnastics centres.
The organizers said in a statement, “by finalizing the operational plan and finalizing the partner organizations’ needs it is possible to modify the tickets for the public”.
The tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis until supplies last.
The second sales phase that started in September runs until the end of the month and the Athens 2004 Organizing Committee hopes to make $213.6 million from ticket sales.
All swimming finals, several weightlifting events and the tennis finals are already sold out.
The average price of a ticket is about 35 euros, less than the 53 euros charged for Sydney 2000. More than two-thirds of all tickets cost up to 30 euros.
Spectators from outside the European Union, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein have to purchase tickets through their respective Olympic Committees.
