Abuja 2014 – Concert To Promote Bid, CGF “Impressed”

Folorunsho Okenia, a consultant to the Abuja 2014 Commonwealth Games Bid Committee, says he’s happy with the “positive interaction” the bid committee had with the five member Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) commission during its inspection visit last week.

The Tide News reports Okenia saying, “I think they are really impressed with what we have done so far. They have seen for themselves that the facilities we claim that we have are there”.

He added the team had also seen that the sites earmarked for development of certain sports facilities did exist. “There are also documents from the Federal Capital Territory for them to verify the allocations for the project. The exercise is no joke as nothing is left to chance. They have specialists among them in certain fields, particularly architecture and medicine, who are there to get to some minute details. On the whole, from the signs and body language, we have no doubts that they are impressed by our presentations so far”.

Meanwhile, a concert to promote the bid begins in Abuja on July 13, said Pat Ukah of Gazelle Consult, the marketing consultant for the bid.

The concert is taking place at the International Conference Centre, one of the venues that would host boxing should Abuja win the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Ukah said, “we deliberately chose the venue so as to begin early in drawing attention to the venue”, adding that the logo for the bid and some visual strong points would be shown via multimedia in some selected cities around the country.

Those purchasing tickets to the concerts will be eligible for a raffle in which the prizes will be branded souvenirs from the bid committee.

The concert will visit several cities including Calabar, Aba, Enugu, Asaba, Ibadan, Benin, Kaduna, Jos and Makurdi and ends October 12.
