Abuja’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games will receive a boost Monday when Ron Walker, chair of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games held last March, visits the city to inspect some of the facilities Nigeria has in its 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.
Walker will be meeting with Gen. Yakubu Gowon, chairman of Abuja’s 2014 bid committee.
This Day reports that Walker’s visit is a big boost for Abuja 2014 and strengthens the growing recognition of Nigeria’s 2014 Commonwealth bid, which, if successful, will bring the Games to Africa for the first time.
According to the bid committee other distinguished sports personalities have been lined up to visit the country in the coming months as part of the build up for the Commonwealth Games.
