2014 Winter Bid Cities At World Sport Congress

Delegations from Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2014 are in Havana Cuba attending the 11th World Sport For All Congress.

The Congress, held from October 31 to November 3, has gathered experts and specialists from around the world to discuss “Physical activity: benefits and challenges”.

The event is being organized by the Cuban National Olympic Committee under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the General Association of Sports Federations.

Russia’s Sports Minister Vyacheslav Fetisov, one of Sochi 2014’s delegates at the congress said, “I am pleased to be here in Cuba and participating in the “Sport for All” Congress that shares so many of the same preoccupations as the Russian Government. We firmly believe in the ideal of using sports as a means to inclusion, breaking down barriers and bringing people together from all levels of society and across all geographic borders. This remains one of the greatest legacies that we can leave our youth, and is one of the driving forces behind Russia’s bid to host the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games”.

Kim Jin-sun, Executive President of PyeongChang 2014, is leading PyeongChang’s delegation.

He said, “PyeongChang 2014 is delighted to be attending this vitally important World Sport for All Congress. A key aim of PyeongChang’s bid is to inspire young people in Korea and around the world to take part in sport. Snow and ice are only to be found in certain parts of the world but the inspirational message of sport can touch everybody. Most of us will not reach elite level but we can all enjoy the health benefits of an active lifestyle. We look forward to learning about the many excellent examples of Sport for All programs from around the world”.

Government representatives, sports officials and other delegates will be engaging in dialogue about various issues including how sports participation can address the health risks of physical inactivity.
