A Korean Olympic Committee official told the Yonhap News Agency Monday that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will send an evaluation team to the seven candidate cities that are bidding for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games from February to March of 2007.
The official told Yonhap on condition of anonymity “the IOC made public, with a verbal report, the detailed procedure and schedule for evaluation of the seven bidders early in the morning”.
One of the 29 agenda items at the 15th general assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in Seoul was a presentation on the seven bid cities.
The official said the IOC will determine a detailed plan for evaluations, including procedure and schedule, on January 10 before inspecting the candidate cities.
“The valuation will focus on the cities’ capability of meeting several standards. The standards are the candidate cities’ conformity with the Olympic philosophy, facilities for athletes and officials as well as ability to follows the required rules of the specific disciplines,” said the official.
The Olympic governing body reportedly will announce the result of the evaluations in June 2007, one month before its general assembly in Guatemala where the election for the 2014 host city will be held.
