Representatives of the nine cities bidding for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games were in Athens last weekend where they visited all the competition venues of the Athens Olympic Games being held in August.
The 49 delegates from New York, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, Leipzig, Madrid, London, Paris, Moscow and Havana also attended a briefing at the Athens 2004 Conference Centre.
They visited the Olympic Complexes, the Olympic Village and some of the Press Villages, and Training Centres.
Dan Doctoroff, New York’s Deputy Mayor and President and Founder of New York’s 2012 bid committee, echoed the praise of the other eight bid cities when he said, “I am impressed. We sometimes read various news reports on how preparations for Athens are proceeding but now that I am here and see what is happening I can tell you it is an astonishing experience. Athens has managed to create new infrastructure and works are taking place everywhere and these will change people’s lives for the better”.
