2010 Youth Olympic Games Bid – Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok

While the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) said it had reluctantly submitted a bid for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is to launch a new website promoting its bid.

Straits Times reports that the OCM told Bernama it had “reluctantly” submitted a bid on behalf of Kuala Lumpur August 12 at the government’s request believing the money for the bid could be better spent.

The OCM believes the money spent on the bid could be used for sports development or preparations for youths participating in upcoming Games, said OCM President Tunku Imran Jaafar.

Meanwhile the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is to launch a new Bangkok website to support international tourism and officially express its interest in hosting the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

The Governor said despite the bids from 10 other cities, the hosting experience of Universiade Bangkok 2007 and the Bangkok International Children’s Games 2006 would be an advantage in making Bangkok’s case.
