2010 Bid Cities Promote Bid Quietly

While officials of the three cities bidding for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games can attend a party thrown by the Mayor of Prague and an official opening ceremony tonight, because of the Salt Lake City scandal there is little they can do to promote their bids in front of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Toronto Star reports that the three bid cities are instead looking to the media to publicize their bids. Pyeongchang’s bid team invited some reporters to lunch at a nearby hotel.

Salzburg has promised to take other journalists to one of the city’s oldest and poshest nighclubs Monday night.

And Vancouver is holding daily news briefings. John Furlong, President of Vancouver’s bid said, “we decided a long time ago we wouldn’t do anything here” for the media.

By the luck of the draw Vancouver will be the first bid city to present its bid, followed by Salzburg and then Pyeongchang.
