The Canadian Press reports Ontario’s bid for the 2015 Pan American Games has one less competitor according to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty’s office. The group representing the city of Caracas, Venezuela announced Friday that it had declined to table its bid.
The Premier is in Acapulco, Mexico this week to present the province’s case for hosting the games to the Pan American Sports Organization.
Venezuela announced September 26 that it would submit an application to the Pan American Sports Organization meeting this week in Acapulco.
The other cities still bidding for the 2015 Pan American Games are Lima, Peru and Bogota, Colombia.
In a media release former Ontario Premier David Peterson, who is heading Toronto’s bid said, “Ontario is ready, willing, eager and able to host the 2015 Pan Am Games. We will do everything in our power to live up to the spirit of the Games and make the event truly unforgettable”.
