Lima 2015's Gaffe Nearly Cost It Pan Am Bid

The Hamilton Spectator reports Lima’s bid for the 2015 Pan American Games was in peril Wednesday when its bid book presumed that Lima would control TV signals during the 2015 Pan American Games.

According to the Spectator, Pan Am president Mario Vazquez Rana held up the Lima bid book and said the offer of free TV signals to Pan Am countries could disqualify the bid. He appealed to Canada and Colombia to waive the misstep on behalf of bids from Toronto and Bogota.

Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) president Mike Chambers reportedly rose and said Canada would forgive Peru, as did Colombia’s representative.

Representatives of the three bid cities are in Guadalajara, Mexico to make presentations Friday ahead of the vote by the Pan American Sports Organization’s (PASO).
