Edmonton, Alberta, Canada has announced more details of its bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson unveiled the bid committee along with the official logo for their bid. He said, “the bid committee will be going to Glasgow to connect with the delegates about how the Games are being run. I will be going for about a week as well to begin the process in lobbying for the support for our bid”
He added, “our bid effort, in partnership with the Alberta government, is focused on convincing Commonwealth Games voters that Edmonton is the best host city in 2022”.
Bid applications are due in March and the host city will be announced September 2, 2015 in Auckland, New Zealand.
The bid process is expected to cost from $5 million to $7 million, with a promise of funding from the province of Alberta. The province says that a motion will be tabled this fall for funds to contribute to the bid.
