2015 Ontario Pan Am Bid To Be Launched

The Hamilton Spectator reports the Southern Ontario 2015 Pan Am Games bid will be officially launched October 2 with a vision statement and broad outline of bid strategy. But bid chairman David Peterson said Tuesday, “we won’t be detailing where facilities go”.

According to the Spectator the launch will introduce various players in the executive board that will present a preliminary bid to the annual congress of the Pan American Sport Organization (PASO) October 8-12 in Acapulco Mexico.

The executive board will include Peterson, as well as a representative of the Canadian Olympic Committee, and a representative from the Canadian government.

Ontario’s Premier Dalton McGuinty is planning to join the group in Acapulco, said Peterson.

Peterson told the Spectator the bidding for the 2016 Summer Games could also have some bearing on the Pan Am process. Rio de Janeiro and Chicago are on the short list and as PASO is comprised of national Olympic organizations, there will also be lobbying for support for their bids.

The Ontario bid faces competition from Caracas Venezuela, Lima Peru, and Bogota Columbia.
