IOC President Open To Return Of Baseball, Softball

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said he is open to bringing back baseball and softball to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Bach said “I’m personally open for more flexibility in the program of the Olympic Games” adding “but I still have to see what my colleagues in the IOC are thinking about this”.

Baseball and softball joined together to get the one available space for a returning sport for the 2020 and 2024 Games, but the IOC voted to reinstate wrestling.

Bach is in Japan this week and said he is impressed by the preparations for the Tokyo Games and was not worried over the ongoing controversy over the building of the main Olympic stadium, which has been criticized in some sectors for being too grandiose, expensive and environmentally unsound.
